🎯 What This Integration Does
When you create a new client or matter in LeanLaw, the system will:
Check for an existing match in NetDocs using the client and matter IDs.
If a match is found, LeanLaw links to the existing NetDocs workspace.
If no match is found, LeanLaw will automatically create the client and matter in NetDocs for you.
This sync allows attorneys to start working in NetDocs immediately while admins and operators manage data in LeanLaw with confidence.
✅ Key Requirements
To ensure seamless syncing between LeanLaw and NetDocs:
Client and Matter IDs in LeanLaw must be populated and unique.
These IDs are the foundation of how the systems match data.IDs must match NetDocs keys.
The integration relies on matching the LeanLaw ID with the NetDocs key—not the name or description.
💡 Tip: If you’re a firm that already uses NetDocs, it may be easier to update LeanLaw to match existing NetDocs IDs.
⚠️ Important Limitations to Know
NetDocs keys cannot be changed once created.
If something needs to change, update it in LeanLaw. Editing IDs in NetDocs would require recreating the workspace.Mismatched records? Update them in LeanLaw.
This keeps the integration stable and ensures proper syncing.Historical records in NetDocs don’t have to sync.
If a matter is closed or not used for billing, there’s no need to bring it into LeanLaw.
📂 Where to View the Linked Workspace
Once a client/matter is created and linked:
A NetDocs tab will appear under each matter in LeanLaw.
This tab displays an iframe view of the NetDocs workspace.
The view is permission-based—users must have access to the corresponding workspace in NetDocs to see it.
