The LeanLaw + NetDocuments integration allows your firm to seamlessly sync client and matter records between the two systems—saving time, reducing manual entry, and helping ensure accuracy across platforms.
✅ Prerequisites
Your firm must be on a Pro or Elite LeanLaw subscription.
The NetDocs integration must be enabled for your firm. If you’re unsure whether it’s active, reach out to your LeanLaw account representative.
⚙️ Step-by-Step: Connecting LeanLaw to NetDocs
1. Enable the Integration
Once the integration feature is turned on, navigate to the Firm Settings area in LeanLaw. There, you’ll find the NetDocs integration setup option.
2. Grant Permissions
You’ll be prompted to authenticate with NetDocs and approve a set of standard permissions that allow LeanLaw to sync data securely between systems.
3. Select a Cabinet
Choose a NetDocs cabinet for your integration.
Important: The selected cabinet must be organized by matters—this is a technical requirement for the integration to work properly. Cabinets that aren’t matter-based will be disabled in the selection list.
4. Map Practice Areas (Optional)
If your firm uses Practice Areas, you can choose to map them during setup. This is especially useful for firms who have templated NetDocs workspaces by practice area (e.g., Family Law, Litigation).
5. Review Existing Clients & Matters (Recommended)
Before activating the integration, we recommend downloading a Client-Matter Report. This allows you to:
Identify existing records in NetDocs and LeanLaw.
See which records match and which do not.
Address any discrepancies before syncing begins.
This step helps minimize errors and prevents duplicates during the setup.
6. Activate the Integration
Once everything looks good, you’re ready to activate. Just click Activate Integration, and LeanLaw will begin syncing client and matter data with NetDocs.
