If you need to make changes to the client information later, you can edit it at any time

Creating Matters

Note that all new clients must have at least one associated matter.

  1. Create a Matter:

    1. After saving the client information, you’ll be directed to the matter creation screen.

    2. Name the matter, assign a matter ID (if used), and select the billing type (hourly, contingency, fixed fee, pro bono, or internal).

  2. Assign Responsible Attorney

    1. Specify the responsible attorney for the matter. You can select yourself or another attorney from a dropdown list.

  3. Originating Attorney (if applicable):

    1. If your firm uses originating attorneys, choose the originating attorney from the user list.

  4. Create the Matter:

    1. Click on the “Create” button to create the matter.

Matter Management

You’ll be taken to the Matter Management area with several tabs:

  • Info Tab: Edit additional information, such as practice areas, referral sources, adverse parties, and notes. Everything in this tab will be searched during a conflict check search.

  • Overview Tab: View work in progress for this matter.

  • Billing Activity Tab: Review billing activity specific to this matter.

  • Billing and Rates Tab: Modify billing type and rates for this matter.

  • Fixed Fee Tab: Add fixed fees for this matter.

  • QuickBooks Tab: Configure QuickBooks settings for invoicing.

Save any changes or additions, and the client and matter will be added to your client and matter lists.

That’s it! You have successfully created clients and associated matters in LeanLaw. You can repeat these steps for additional clients and matters in your legal practice.
