Troubleshooting Fixed Fee Time Entries

If Fixed Fee time isn’t behaving as expected, these are the most common causes.

“I don’t see ‘Fixed Fee’ as a billing type”

Common reasons:

  • You’re on an Internal matter (which may restrict billing types), or

  • Your role/permissions limit time entry options

What to try:

  • Confirm the matter type and your permissions

  • If it still doesn’t appear, check with your billing admin

“I logged time as Fixed Fee but it showed up unexpectedly on an invoice”

By default, many firms include Fixed Fee time details on invoices. Firms can optionally hide those details.

“I accidentally logged Fixed Fee work as billable”

Fix:

  • Edit the time entry

  • Change Billing Type from Billable to Fixed Fee

  • Select the appropriate Fixed Fee in the dropdown

  • Save

If the entry has already been invoiced, you may need to adjust the invoice based on your firm’s billing workflow.

“I selected Fixed Fee, but the charge dropdown is empty”

That’s normal if no fixed fees exist on the matter yet. The time can still be tracked as Fixed Fee—it just isn’t linked to a specific fee.
