Step-by-Step Instructions

Creating Snippets:

  1. Access Settings:

    1. Locate the gear icon in the top right corner of the LeanLaw interface.

    2. Click on the gear icon to access your settings.

  2. Navigate to Snippets and Shortcodes:

    1. In the settings page, look for the section labeled "Team Settings" on the left side.

    2. Under "Team Settings," click on "Snippets and Shortcodes."

  3. Understand Snippets:

    1. Snippets in LeanLaw are available firm-wide, not individualized per user. Any snippet you create will be accessible to the entire firm.

    2. Predefined snippets with shortcodes are provided for common phrases or paragraphs that are used frequently in time entries and documents.

  4. Create a New Snippet:

    1. To create a new snippet, select a phrase or text you want to save as a snippet (e.g., boilerplate contract language).

    2. Copy the selected text.

  5. Create a Shortcode:

    1. In the "Snippets and Shortcodes" section, find an empty field to enter your snippet.

    2. Paste the copied text into this field.

    3. Create a shortcode or shortcut for your snippet (e.g., XX).

  6. Save the Snippet:

    1. After creating the shortcode, find a "Save" or "Create" button, and click it to save the snippet.

Using Snippets in LeanLaw:

  1. Create a Time Entry:

    1. Go to the section where you can create time entries, such as the "Bulk Time Entry" area.

  2. Select a Client:

    1. Choose the client for whom you want to create a time entry.

  3. Use the Snippet Shortcode:

    1. In the description box, you can start with your snippet's content by typing the shortcode (e.g., XX).

    2. After typing the shortcode, press the spacebar, and you will see the full snippet content automatically filled in.

  4. Add Additional Text (Optional):

    1. You can continue to add more text to the description if needed.

  5. Add More Snippets (Optional):

    1. If you have additional snippets to add to your description, you can type their shortcodes directly or use a dropdown menu to select from available snippets.

    2. You can also string together multiple snippets if necessary.

  6. Create the Time Entry:

    1. Once your description is complete, click "Create Entry" to create the time entry.

That's it! You've successfully created and used snippets in LeanLaw. Snippets can save you time by allowing you to quickly insert frequently used text or paragraphs into your time entries and documents.
