Welcome to Lean Insights, LeanLaw's modern reporting solution. This video will show you how to add an item to a dashboard for custom report building.

How to Create a New Custom Report in Lean Insights

This guide walks you through the basic steps of creating a custom report using Lean Insights.

1. Open Lean Insights and Navigate to Reports

  1. Log in to the LeanLaw application.

  2. In the navigation menu, go to the Reports section.

  3. Select the Custom Reports tab.

2. Create a New Custom Report

  1. Click the New button.

  2. Lean Insights will open a fresh, empty report dashboard.

    • You’ll see an empty workspace in the center.

    • An Add Item button is available for building your report.

    • A list of available data sets appears on the right side of the screen.

3. Title Your Report

  1. Click into the title field at the top of the editor.

  2. Type the name of your report.
    Example: Monthly Expense Report

  3. Once saved, the report title will appear in the left-hand list for easy access in the future.

4. Add Items to Your Dashboard

To build your report, you’ll add components such as tables, charts, and filters.

  1. Click the Add Item button.

  2. A menu will appear with various component types:

    • Text Boxes

    • Number Summaries

    • Tables

    • Pivot Tables

    • Date Filters

    • Search & Select (Slicers)

    • Visualizations
(e.g., bar charts, column charts, line charts)

  3. Select the item you want to add.

Example shown in the training:

  • Add a Data Table

  • Add a Data Filter

(This session does not cover how to populate these items with data—this will be covered in a follow-up training.)

5. Arrange and Customize Items

Every item you add can be rearranged to match your desired layout.

  • Click and drag the cross icon in the upper-right corner of an item to move it.

  • Drag the edges or corners of an item to resize it.

  • Use these features to create a clean, organized dashboard layout.

6. Final Notes

You’re now ready to begin building your custom report!
Feel free to explore additional visualizations and filters to refine your data display.
